August has been long and hot, sometimes uncomfortable but not at all uneventful! With Marcella out of daycare, Mike’s brother in town, and a family trip to the country (and a lot of work pressure for me), we were buzzing along all month.

Flew home from the US. It was long but Marcella was a trooper as always.
Mike’s brother Cristian has been staying with us all month. Marcella has shown him the sights.

This little girl turned 2! I made her a funfetti cake from scratch.
We escaped the heat by heading to Abruzzo for a week, where we shared a really amazing rental in the middle of nowhere.
It was seriously, so nice.
We took a little day trip to Ascoli Piceno, which is famous for it’s stuffed olives. They were pretty amazing.
On our way home we stopped by San Marino, one of the smallest countries in the world.
Marcella, Mike and Cristian took a day trip to Florence. Apparently M was pretty impressed by the David (who isn’t?)
Mike and I squeezed in a date night. The harsh August weather is so much more bearable after dark.
At the end of the month the weather finally started to cool down and Bologna became lovely again.

Marcella started daycare again this week and Cristian headed home this morning. Thank goodness things are finally getting back to normal (just in time for us to leave again).  Mid-September we resume our world travels with another trip to the US and an exciting adventure in Mexico.

About Me

I’m a girl who can’t sit still. After nearly a decade of flitting around the world as a professional blogger and travel writer, I’ve settled into expat life in Bologna, Italy. I have a handsome husband, a floppy dog, and the best two year old in the world.

I blog professionally at Why Wait To See the World, and unprofessionally right here.
